Something I wrote today…
He said no words, but she understood him as he spoke. “Yes” she said. He put his hand on her shoulder as she lay there. And though it was cold like winter she did not shudder. She only inhaled deeply. The air of that breath was filled with fearful excitement and the pleasure of anticipation. She smiled as his boney cheek pressed against hers. He kissed her temple with his lipless mouth. A single tear crept from the corner of her eye, but before it could fall he had raised his scythe high and taken what was his.
